A little history
When Seniors Without Borders (SuG) was newly founded in Holbæk in 2004, it also created the foundation for the Computer Group (formerly Comsug).
2 new members Hans Lundbæk and Kurt Højmann Hansen had written on the CVs they were given that they were both interested in PC technology. Shortly afterwards they met – the idea was to create a group that collected used computers and refurbished them to then
send them to developing countries. Hans had space for storage and a workshop on his farm in the Holbæk catchment area. It only took a short time for the group to grow to 6-7 people.
When Holbæk’s mayor Jørn Sørensen had just been on a democratization trip to Albania and learned that schools had few or no PCs to help with the education of students, he suggested that we make PCs for Albania. It was decided. And when these were ready and
functional – a total of 60 pieces – they were sent to Albania in a container in collaboration with the Copenhagen Fire Department, which had donated surplus firefighting equipment.
After a few years, the Microsoft group was approved and we were able to put legal stickers on the PCs for $5 per PC. Microsoft had sent various CDs with Windows 2000 in different languages, for example French Spanish etc. But the group was self-financing, and it was necessary to look for a cheaper solution. The choice fell on the 2 free programs – Ubuntu and the Libre Office package. They were available on the Internet and particularly suitable for developing countries. But today, Microsoft Windows 10 or 11 and Libre Office are used
For many years, the group has consisted of approximately 14 – 16 people. Today the group has a workshop on the outskirts of Holbæk. Since the time at Hans Lundbæk’s farm, the group has had to move 4 times. But mostly with help from Holbæk Municipality to new usable facilities.
To date, countless PCs and printers have been delivered. In recent years, flat screens and laptops have also been included in the range.
